Its time folks for us Cuvy people to step up to the plate. Our beloved quail ridge needs new pin placements. We need 36 bags of concrete and 18 fence post couplers.
the concrete will cost about 4 bucks a bag and the couplers I am still pricing. if we can get all of the cuvy guys to commit to a day of work at the park we can get new pins up in a day. I am going to get 18 wood post with some red flagging tape to mark the new spots that we need to agree on. lets pick a day when we can all be there and walk the ridge and vote on the new spots.
We need everyone to buy 2 bags of crete if we do that i will buy the stuff for the post (fencepost couplings) if you buy the crete i can store them at my house till we are ready to dig.
this is our chance to show the other club that don't wanna do anything on our side of the river that we are a real club with the members to get things done.
lets hear some feedback. who has post hole diggers and shovels? what day can we all meet to pick new spots? we will need 5 gallon buckets for water and somethings to mix in. Flapper said he will bring the beer. (he may not know he said that yet but he will) we will need some grass seed to reseed the old pin spots.
cost will be close to 144 bucks in crete and 72 bucks in the couplers so its not going to cost that much to do.

we will need battery powered saws and drills and a hand full of nuts and bolts also. I know there are a few of us in the construction trade that can provide the tools we need so tell us what you can bring. Yes all of our hands will fit a shovel so no wussie excuses.

Disc up, If the parks dept. says OK, than I can help. I have $31.50 from 50/50 raffles for QR improvements that I have been waiting to give to someone for erosion contol/pin placements. I also have gloves, a wheelbarrow, shovels, post hole digger, the claw, and some arm muscles, albeit weak, but a lot of hands make for easier work. Make sure this is OK because previosly the parks dept. was against multiple pin placements, and then post a date or get back to me with a date. Even if my schedule is full I still have the $ to donate and that will get around 7 bags. Keep me abreast of the situation.

parks will let us do it they just wont help us in any way. We have to mark the spots we want then they will say yes or no. after they say yes to our spots then we can start digging

Sorry guys, this is the first time I have been on this board in a long time.
I’ll try to give a quick summary of where things are at with the parks dept. A proposal has been submitted to the parks dept and I’m just waiting to hear back right now. Basically what I have proposed is if we spend a minimum of $1000 per year on course improvements we can get free shelter rentals and close the course for league night and for a few tournaments. We currently are spending about $600 per year on shelter rentals, so there may be a bit of negotiating when it comes to that.
My gut feeling is that they are going to still want the income from shelter rentals. Worst case scenario I’m hoping they will agree to something like if we spend a minimum of $500 per year on course improvements we can still close the course when needed, but we would still have to pay for shelter rentals. Unfortunately $500 per year won’t go too far in improvements, but it is at least a start and I am also only looking at it as a minimum number. Hopefully more money could be raised and there are ways of generating money that have already been discussed.
This agreement is similar to what the RCF has with the St. Louis County parks dept. Depending on what happens for sure there is a set amount of money that has already been committed by the club. I’m just waiting like everyone else to get some answers back. Once I do I’m ready to hit the ground running.
As far as new pin placements, I’m all for it. I am not necessarily committed to moving all 18 right now. I would like to start with the first 6 or so baskets that need to be moved the most due to erosion. There would be a little more involved then just the concrete and couplers though. If we are going to do it then it needs to be done right. Sleeves need to be put into the ground for the basket pole to slip in. Once some of the old pin placements have the erosion problems fixed we will need to put sleeves in those to move the pins back and forth as needed. Locks will also need to be bought for each pin. Some of the poles are bent and need to be replaced. No reason to spend the time sinking a new pin in the ground if it is all beat up.
I am booked pretty solid for about the next week, but I am planning on meeting up with Dave McCormack sometime in the next few weeks to go over a few things. The baskets at QR were made by him and he is probably the most knowledgeable guy around when it comes to putting the pins in. We will also be looking to replace the chains on the baskets, but they may have to be put on hold for a while.
Other things I would like to see done ASAP is to have stepping stones lead up to the tee pads on most of the holes. I think if you had 3 –5 nice stepping stones leading up to some of the muddiest tee pads it would stop people from walking all over the place. I also would like to get posts made for all the white and blue tee pads. Nothing crazy, but at least something sticking out of the ground so everyone knows where they are. If we could get the whites and blues played more it might help with some of the erosion problems on the red tees. There are many other things I would like to see done, but first things will be to deal with the erosion and mud problems.
The parks dept in the past has resisted multiple pin placements and I have somewhat to a point as well. The time has come where some of the pins do need to be moved though. First though I need to wait to hear if we can get an agreement with them. If and when an agreement is reached then we will know how much money we will need to spend to reach our end of the agreement. This will give a better idea of what can be done with the funds available.
The next step will be to set up a committee to discuss what needs to be done first. This will also include walking the course to determine the best place for different pin placements. We will determine what supplies are needed for the different projects and come up with an estimate of costs. We will also need to have a good timeline of when the projects will be completed.
On the different pin placements I think the parks dept would be somewhat hesitant to let us go in and do all 18 at once. I would like them to agree to let us first move the ones needed most. If done right I don’t think there would be a problem with us moving more in the future. I also don’t think the funds are there right now to move all 18 at once if we were to do them the right way. My feeling at least is that some of the baskets don’t need to be moved immediately and any extra funds available could be better used on other projects for now.
Any proposal sent to the parks dept has to have everything in good order from where the money is coming from, who is going to do it and when it will be completed. If not done right they may not even bother looking at it.
One thing that I do want to clear up is that we could probably get a lot of help from the parks dept maintenance crew. I don’t know if any of you has ever checked out the maintenance shed, but they have every possible type of equipment you could want available. Unfortunately they do most of their work during the week when I’m not available, but I’m sure others may be able to go up during the week. Some of the things they would probably be willing to do is haul any materials to wherever we need them. No need to haul bags of concrete and water all over the course. They would also dig any holes we needed. Basically they would probably do whatever we needed within reason as long as we gave them notice and worked with their schedule as much as possible. I’m sure they would also do things such as putting down new soil and seeding pin placements that have been moved. They have tried dealing with some of the mud problems in the past, but they would do something like re-seeding and putting down hay near a problem tee pad or basket and people would still walk over it. They would even try to rope off certain areas, but people would still just walk all over it. Can’t grow grass when that happens. After a while they are going to give up also. If an area doesn’t get used as much though the parks dept will try to fix the problem.
I think that’s about all I have for now. If anyone has any questions or suggestions please let me know. I’ll keep everyone updated as to what goes on with the parks dept.

Here to help with whatever. Majesky made some good points and seems to have the ins and outs of what we need to look at, so we really need to make a timeline and a priority list of improvements we'd like to have done, since there seems to be many more thing swe need to look at other than just the placements. I say we need to get a Cuvy/ interested in joining Cuvy members meeting to really hash out the things we want done and how it's going to happen. We need time and place and REALLY talk about this. Sounds to me like the wheels are turning in the right direction.
Any suggestions??? Buffalo Wild Wings has 40 cent wings on Tuesday nights. Right after the last rounds are done we could all meet up on an upcoming night, say May 26 or June 2??? say around 8ish??
My 40 cents.

Everyone agrees that the Flapman should have the final say on all alternate pin placements. This was taken in an official poll this past w/e. Thankyou to all you cuvy foolios.
